Year 12 Formal

The Year 12 Formal continues to be a milestone moment of the year for our senior students, and this year’s event proved to be no exception. In their stunning suits and frocks, the students enjoyed a ‘Brownlow’ themed night at the Mornington Racecourse. A night to be remembered, Merton House Captain Charlie Robbins said that it proved to be one of the highlights of the year so far. “It was such a joy to be able to see all our peers looking their best while busting a move on the dance floor. The venue and the theme, helped to create an elegant atmosphere that allowed everyone to have the best time. It was a night that helped us forget about our Year 12 stresses. I honestly wish I could do it all again. The energy was unmatched.”

Year 11 Social

In what is becoming a fine tradition, the Year 11 Social was held in the St Clare Performing Arts Centre on Friday 14 June. After much preparation from the Social Committee, supported by our Events Co-ordinator, Emma Pangrazio, the PAC was transformed to reflect the theme of a 'Starry Night', as navy fabric lined the walls, and fairy lights twinkled brightly. Reflecting on the night, Year 11 leader Emma Welsh said that everyone looked amazing and this was captured by two photo booths set up for students to remember the special night. “Further inside, the dancing area had been set up wonderfully, with glowing tables and chairs, as well as multicoloured lights illuminating the walls and ceiling as the DJ played a range of awesome songs. Everyone spent some time on the dance floor; a special highlight being the Macarena where everybody joined in. After burning some calories, it was great to grab a soft drink and some food from one of the food trucks. By the time the event finished, everyone left with smiles, a sense of satisfaction after having so much fun with our friends. Memories to last and sore feet!” Emma said. Until next year!

Padua Day

Last week the College community gathered at the Mornington Campus to mark and celebrate the Feast Day of St Anthony of Padua. A momentous day in the annual life of the college, staff and students from across all the campuses, enjoyed a day that began with reflection and gratitude and ended with fun and celebration. The icy cold morning started with a Camino Walk around the school grounds followed by the traditional College mass. The remainder of the day was filled with live music concerts, games, challenges, arts and crafts activities and even some fundraising.

ECAT

Subject offerings and pathways were the focus of this year’s very successful ECAT evening (Education, Careers, Training). The expo gave parents, guardians and students the opportunity to consult with subject teachers and representatives from universities, TAFE colleges, traineeship and apprenticeship programs in preparation for 2025. The Mornington campus was filled with the buzz of excited students and their families inquiring about options and positive conversations around interests and passions.

Teen Chef Challenge

Salmon soba noodles with ginger lemon dressing or a lime stack dessert sound good to you? Well, they certainly won the hearts and taste buds of the judges who had to vote during the Teen Chef Competition recently. Congratulations to all who participated and to those who won: Osten Mulcahey, Nic Geslicki, Zoe Smith and Leila Binder, as they now move into the SIS Teen Chef Competition to be held in August later this year.

Electrotechnology Awards

Congratulations to Ellegra Wood on receiving the Term 2 VET Electrotechnology Award. Ellegra was recognised by her teacher Darrell Faulkener, for her outstanding attitude and perseverance in her studies of this subject.

Year 12 VM Shark Tank Presentations

Entrepreneurs in the making! Being on the panel allowed great insight into the innovative ideas that were bursting at the seams during the Shark Tank presentations. Students needed to take into account the cost, marketing, future projections and practicality of their inventions. The panel was in awe of their creativity and clear preparation. Well done to the students, ably supported by Ms Gilcrest and the VM Team.

SIS Sport

The Year 10 Boys SIS Football Team will be representing Padua College in the Intermediate Sun Herald Shield Schools Competition in August. This is a just reward for team members who gave everything and left nothing on the field each and every game. Playing all 5 of their SIS games away at other schools, the boys finished the season undefeated. We wish them all the best for the next stage of the competition.

Year 11 Excel

Integral to the wider education of our students, the eXcel program was specifically designed for the Yr11 Cohort, with the issue of ‘Safety’ front and centre. External presenters ran a series of workshops that focused on: safe driving practices for our young emerging drivers, safe partying strategies that alert you and your friends to possible dangers, and how to deal with stress and anxiety in a healthy way. Hearing an expert voice that echoes those vital messages is the aim of the day. We encourage families to ask their children about what they learned and keep these conversations going.

Student Photo Permissions

At times, photographs or videos of our students will be published in newsletters, on the school intranet or website, or in our social media.
